CSTMA Member, The Colorado Sports Turf managers Association is hosting a turf skills rodeo and field day on August 13th, 2014.  We encourage all of our members along with your crews and co-workers (even if they are not a CSTMA member) to participate in these games.  This is a great team building opportunity for crews to compete together and show of their skills.   You will have the opportunity to demo equioment and products from all of our sponsors.  Round up your team and brush up on your skills so you can bring home the top prizes!  Please see below for more information on this event.                            

CSTMA TURF SKILLS RODEO AND FIELD DAY 2014

Wednesday August 13th,  2014

Founders Park

Castle Rock, Co.

11:00 am to 2:00pm
Lunch will be served.

Participants may enter as individuals and/or as teams.  All participants from the same organization will be on the same team.  All teams will use an average of their members’ scores to create a team score. At the end of the day prizes will be offered for the best team scores as well as the best overall individual score. If only one individual is present from an organization, that individual will be eligible for the individual prizes but not the team prizes.  Scores from each event will be cumulative to the final overall score.

Team prizes:

1^st place will receive 2 local and national chapter dues for 2015. Up to 4 CSTMA polo shirts and the coveted Turf Skills Rodeo team trophy.

2^nd place will receive 2 local chapter dues and 2 CSTMA polo shirts.

3^rd place will receive 2 CSTMA polo shirts

Individual prizes:

1^st place will receive local and national chapter dues, conference/trade show registration for the 2015 STMA conference in Denver and the coveted Turf Skills Rodeo individual trophy.

Skills Events

1. Zero Turn Mower Obstacle Course:  Timed event.  Participants will maneuver a zero turn mower through an obstacle course of cones and painted lines.  Cones knocked down or mowers driven out of bounds will add 10 seconds time to the final score for each violation.
2. Hose Race:  Timed event. Participants will begin with a hose in a utility cart.  Take the hose out of the cart, connect to a water source, fill a bucket to the line and put the hose back into the cart.  Buckets not filled will add 20 seconds time to the final score.
3. Sod Install Race:  Timed event.  Participants will install a sod roll into an oddly shaped area painted on the ground.  Sod inside our outside of the painted line will add 10 seconds to the final score for each violation.
4. Leaf Blower Golf: Timed Event. Participants will use a leaf blower to move a whiffle ball through 3 holes of “golf”.  1^st hole get the ball into a painted circle.  2^nd hole get the ball into a smaller painted circle first going through 2 parallel lines without going out of bounds. 3^rd hole go around a cone and finish with your ball in a 5 gallon bucket.  Balls out of bounds will add 10 seconds to the final score per violation.  An incomplete hole will add 30 seconds to the final score per violation.
5. Straight line Competition:  Timed event.  Participants will paint a line between two points.  Judges will use a string line at the end to evaluate the line.  Each point off of the string line will result in 10 seconds added to the final score.
